Tom
Schultz was a high tech engineer. Making a six-figure
income, plus stock options. At the age of 37, he was
giving a speech before a room full of people. "Suddenly,
I felt I was watching myself from the corner, and saying
'You're not happy with what you are doing.' I was right.
My job was not who I was. Within six months, I quit
my job and went into teaching in a rural school district.
One of my jobs was driving the school bus. I was finally
happy."
Everyone
has a vocation. A calling. For most of us it's not a
tap on the shoulder and a finger pointing in the "right"
direction. God uses very ordinary but instrumental means
to speak to us. Each conversation is always very personal.
God respects our individuality and our freedom. He wants
us to use our heads in trying to discern our vocation.
Finding
a vocation that says not only what you do, but who you
are takes exploration and reaching
out. For some it is a religious
life. For others, it is a journey like Tom
made.
