For more than 1500 years, the Benedictine
way of life has been a center for contemplation
and prayerfulness, with an overall philosophy
of peace with God and justice on earth.
Focused on Christ, nourished by the scriptures,
each member of the Benedictine community
seeks to achieve a closer relationship with
God, and strives for a deeper understanding
of her true self.
The
Benedictine Sisters of Boerne seek God together
through community, prayer, and ministry
for the sake of the Gospel. "Loving one
another with the love of sisters (RB 72:8),
they open themselves together to discipleship
by the transforming touch of the Holy Spirit"
(--Call to Life: Sisters of St. Benedict,
St. Scholastica Federation, 1987).
The
Benedictine Sisters live out their mission
as a community directed by the charism of
St. Benedict, "We, the Boerne Benedictines
of South Central Texas, are called to seek
God in community. We listen and respond
to the poor and disenfranchised through
ministry in spirituality, healing, education,
and justice & peace."
The
intensity of the comtemplative vision draws
them, as it did Jesus, to enter compassionately
into the struggle, pain and suffering of
the world. The Benedictine Sisters share
a common vision, "To be women willing to
risk all for the sake of the Gospel."
